Top 5 things that Computer Engineering students should focus on:

Let’s imagine about students who are in 3 or 4 years of their degree course right now. They’ll spend a few unforgettable years finishing college, and a few more years just learning and experiencing their first job. Just wonder what will be the software technology world like after 5 years of time, and what are the skills that students can work on bringing in right now to ensure that they are well settled to thrive.

Obviously, 5 years is a long time, and conjecture is very difficult, especially about the future. Let us not tilt your thoughts. So, here is the list of areas students will need to think about:-

  • The abutting billion customers: The IT coup has probably reached a billion people of the world. In the next 5 years, it will reach the next billion, million and may be trillion too. These will be a very different set of people whom we can understand. Many of them will be illiterate also or most of them will not have money or electricity for computers to work on, so mobile devices will decree–. One must start playing with mobile platforms like Android, IOS
  • Usability: As IT touches the lives of people, amongst them very less will be “computer knowing”, and less of them will view computing devices as something that needs to be learnt thoroughly. Therefore, the products that will succeed will be the ones that are easy to use. Computer science is a disciplined subject, and there are lots of theories, and a bunch of defined algorithms make things easy for you to use.
  • Computer Science Basics: Whatever the future is, you will be well apportioned by knowing the basic theory of computer sciences. You will need to learn data-structures and algorithms. It is a saying that if you don’t have your favourite data structures, and an algorithm that you find interesting, then computer science education is incomplete. If, after seeing an algorithm, your first thought is not about the intricacy of it then you need to read your books again and again till you learn. If you’ve only learned Java and C#, and you don’t understand pointers, heaps, stacks, you will be at a disadvantage which will show in your exams
  • Presentation skills: This is not computer science dexterity, but this is one of the most important skills that computer science students should adopt in their nature. You must treat the presentation as equally important as your program, design, and algorithms. And you must spend as much time in presenting (from books, in classes, and in practice) as much as you will spent on programming languages, and other computer science subjects
  • Economics: The popular saying is “When you have a working knowledge of economics, it’s like having a balmy super capability.” Basically, if you understand the basics of economics, you can understand what drives people crazy about technologies.
